INCENTIUIS
LATIN FOR ‘STOKE’
Marked and painted with the ash from within an Anagama Kiln. No 'Incentiuis’ piece will be similar to another. Due to the nature of a wood firing, Incentiuis celebrates its unique differences with the beauty that an Anagama kiln provides with each new firing. The only connecting marks upon each clay surface, are the handpainted douglas firs that are congruently seen with each ceramic series that I make.
The Latin translation of ‘Incentiuis’ also includes additional meanings of hoard, provide, and reserve. Wood firing is a demanding process that requires ceramic artists to provide, tend, and nurture a wood kiln. Much like a dragon guards and curates its hoard.
