RESPITE

The definition of Respite comes from the Latin root word ‘to turn around to look at.’ Each Respite vessel depicts a scene from the Pacific Northwest which Pilar climbed and viewed. Like its definition, each mountainous landscape grants a viewer temporary relief from physical exertion or mental responsibility.

The Respite series couples the rich brown surface of clay with minimal glaze application. Each vessel is to be used continuously, with comfort, until born into familiarity. Each Respite vessel currently depicts landscape scenes within Oregon from Mt. Hood, The Three Sisters, Smith Rock, and Mt. Saint Helens. This body of work is ongoing and will continue to change within each moment of respite.
